(DLA Las Piñas HS LRC) August Author of the Month - James Dashner

This month, we're featuring award-winning 41-year-old Georgia-born James Smith Dashner since a film adaptation of one of his books, is coming out next month at theatres all over the country! Dashner was born November 26, 1972. He has five brothers and sisters.

He writes peculative fiction, primarily series for children or young adults. His work is typically within the adventure, survival, and science-fiction genres. Once upon a time, he attended university where he received a Masters Degree in Accounting.

James worked in the field of finance for a while but then decided to try his hand at writing, having been an avid reader since childhood. (The about section is his official site even says on the matter: "He doesn’t miss numbers. At all.")

Dashner has since then been a professional full time writer since June 1, 2003 (the date his first book, A Door in the Woods, was published). The first installment in The Maze Runner series was on the New York Times Bestseller List for one entire year.

He now lives in the Rocky Mountains together with his wife Lynette Anderson from West Valley City, Utah and their four children. In his free time, James still loves to read, watch movies and (good) TV shows, snow ski, and read. (Reading was mentioned twice on purpose.) Most of all, he’s thankful that he gets to make a living writing stories and considers himself pretty much the luckiest guy on the planet.
